What Our Patients Say

At the beginning of my implant ordeal, I was absolutely dreading the procedure. Dr. Sheldon and his staff were such a pleasure. And the sedation makes extractions and implant surgery a breeze. Take it from a real chicken, when you have those beautiful new teeth, you'll wish you had done this sooner!

Thanks so much for giving me a new lease on life. It's so nice to go out to lunch or dinner and not worry about the slipping dentures. It's a secret that I'm glad to be rid of. I'm so glad that I had the implants and would highly recommend them.

I have a better smile now. No one can tell the difference between my own teeth and the implants.

I was a little nervous about getting surgery on my mouth so I made sure to pick the best Periodontist! Dr. Sheldon and staff were absolutely wonderful with their explanations of the procedure. I can't speak for everyone who's had this procedure, but mine was completely painless! The day of the surgery I was eating and drinking with no problem whatsoever.

    Dental Implants

implant_1When you lose a tooth, a dental implant may be needed to replace the tooth root and crown. Dental implants are simply "anchors" that are placed below the gum line and permanently support replacement teeth. They are secure and durable and can be cleaned and cared for much like your natural teeth.

The procedure requires a titanium root be fitted into your jaw to replace the lost tooth's root. Once the implant is anchored into the bone, the bone around the implant requires six weeks to six months of healing. During the healing period, you will be fitted with a temporary tooth to retain your cosmetic appearance. Once the bone has healed, a support post and replacement tooth is anchored onto the implant. Many patients who undergo implant therapy take comfort medication only on the day of treatment. In fact, many patients say they never felt a thing and were absolutely fine the next day.

implant_2Dr. Sheldon has been performing dental implant therapy since 1986. In fact, he innovated a technique which is now used by other practices. Dr. Sheldon received the Platinum Award from Nobel BioCare, the leading manufacturer of dental implants, for his expertise in providing dental implant therapy.

    Dental Implant - Supported Overdenture

implant_1A dental implant-supported overdenture is a viable option for patients who are missing all of their teeth. A bar is placed over the gum tissue and secured by dental implants. The bar becomes the foundation for the denture to be snapped into place. The denture is firmly anchored by the bar, does not move and allows for normal chewing.

    Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery

Do you have a "toothy" or "gummy" smile? You can now easily fix these cosmetic issues with cosmetic periodontal surgery. Cosmetic periodontal surgery can fix a number of cosmetic issues associated with the amount of tooth that is exposed.

It can cover exposed root surfaces to reduce the amount of tooth exposed or uncover a portion of the tooth hidden below the gum line. Cosmetic periodontal surgery can also restore lost gum tissue in areas where teeth have been extracted. That means that fixed bridges can be restored to their original natural appearance by replacing lost gum tissue.

    Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy

There have been major advances in non-surgical periodontal treatment for chronic periodontal disease. Good non-surgical periodontal therapy relies on well-trained and meticulous hygienists. All of our hygienists have at least fifteen years of experience in dental hygiene and periodontal therapy. Our highly-trained, skilled hygienists reduce your need for gum surgery.

Our state-of-the-art ultrasonic scalers have been designed by a periodontist for maximum effectiveness on root surfaces. And the latest innovation, a dental endoscope (camera) which can be placed below the gum line, further reduces the need for surgical treatment of periodontal disease.

We take every opportunity to help you control your periodontal disease problem non-surgically and then reevaluate to determine the effectiveness of the treatment. If surgical treatment is required, the treatments maximize your comfort and your ability to regrow lost periodontal support.

    Guided Tissue Regeneration

We use guided tissue regeneration to rebuild lost periodontal support for the tooth. This surgical technique gently eases the gum tissue away from the tooth. The periodontal infection is cleaned away and a gel or bone powder is then placed in the pocket. This stimulates the body to produce new bone to partially or fully restore the bone which has been lost. This procedure takes 40 to 60 minutes per tooth and requires local anesthesia or sedation. This painless procedure requires little or no pain medication after the procedure is completed.

    Gum Tissue Grafts

implant_1Gum Tissue Grafts Gum tissue grafts are used to replace weakened, chronically inflamed tissue that causes root surface exposure or to cover the root surfaces where this exposure has already occurred. We use a highly developed, gum-tissue grafting material that is manufactured for this purpose. Tissue from your mouth may be the better choice in cosmetic situations.

    Crown Lengthening for Cosmetics

implant_1Plastic surgeons for years have known the importance of proportion in cosmetic enhancement of the face. The same sense of proportion is apparent in the mouth.

The gum lines and teeth should have a certain height and a certain width. Sometimes our teeth are too long or too short, creating a gummy smile. Cosmetic crown lengthening restores the correct proportion to the gum tissue. When the contours of the gum tissue look correct, the smile becomes much more natural.

Crown Lengthening to Restore a Tooth

implant_1Decay can attack a tooth at any point. When decay attacks below the gum line, the very foundation for the crown restoration is lost. When advanced decay occurs, the periodontist performs a crown lengthening. Crown lengthening reshapes the height of the supporting bone and the supporting gum tissue so that more tooth structure is available to hold a crown. This allows your dentist to construct a crown that will attach securely to the tooth.

    Bone Grafts

implant_1Sometimes when a tooth has been lost, the very foundation of that tooth, the bone, is also lost. Dental implants require that bone support for security and strength. Dental bone grafting restores the lost bone support so that the implant can be placed.
