Dental Implants

I was so happy with
all aspects of my treatment with Dr. Sheldon and his staff. Their care and concern went far beyond anything I had previously experienced in a
dental or periodontal office.

Before and Afters
Dr. Sheldon first began performing dental implant therapy in 1986. And what is really special is that well over 100 dentists have referred their patients to Dr. Sheldon for dental implant care.

Dr. Sheldon is known as an innovator and brings cutting-edge dental implant, as well as soft and hard tissue grafting procedures to Brevard County. He was the first in all of central Florida to do virtual surgery on a computer. From such a design, he worked with a Swedish laboratory to create a custom-made surgical guide that was attached to a patient's jaw, and placed implants without making an incision. It is therefore not unusual for him to place an implant or a series of implants and place teeth on those implants on the very same day.

He works with biologic modifiers to speed healing and increase comfort. He has the knowledge and expertise to extract your own growth factors from your blood to enhance your surgical outcome. And as a cosmetic periodontist, his attention to detail assures you that your implant-supported tooth will not only be strong, it will be beautiful.

Dr. Sheldon teaches these and other techniques as a Clinical Associate Professor in the graduate department of Periodontology at the University of Florida. He has continually been active not only in receiving continuing education, but also providing continuing education to dentists through the Brevard Study Club, which Dr. Sheldon founded in 1995.

Dental implants replace the root of the missing tooth. They act as anchors for new teeth and may be used to replace one or all of the missing teeth. Dr. Sheldon's latest innovation, Solid Bite, allows a patient to have a new, permanent, full arch of teeth fixed in place supported by only 5 or 6 implants. Whether you need a full arch of new teeth, need to secure a denture, or just need to replace a single tooth, you will be seeing one of the most respected and most experienced implant surgeons in Florida.

Dental implants replace a missing single tooth or multiple teeth. These restorative devices function as the natural root does, thus providing confidence and comfort in chewing, speaking and laughing.

The first phase of a dental implant begins well before the surgical procedure. Treatment planning is a must and includes measurement of supporting bone through our in-house dental CT scan and associated computer software. Once treatment plan is reviewed, the next step is to fit the dental implant titanium root into the jawbone. A single implant can take as little as 20 minutes of actual surgical time. Throughout this procedure, we assure our patients' comfort at all times. Once placed, the jawbone will begin to grow around the implant, creating a firm foundation for the new tooth or teeth. During the healing process, which takes from two to six months, the patient may wear a temporary tooth. The second phase of the dental implant procedure is performed once the bone has completely healed around the titanium root. During this appointment, the replacement tooth is affixed onto the implant.

Dental implant therapy is highly successful and uncomplicated in the skilled hands of Dr. Sheldon. Many patients who undergo implant therapy say they never felt a thing and were absolutely fine the next day. Should any discomfort arise, this may be remedied with over the counter or prescription pain medication.

Dental Implant - Supported Overdenture
Dental implant therapy is quite advantageous for denture wearers, as it provides the confidence and freedom not present in traditional floating dentures. Through the dental implant-supported overdenture, we restore natural function in patients who are missing all of their teeth. In this device, a bar is placed over the gum tissue and secured by dental implants; becoming the foundation dentures will snap into. The dental implant-supported overdenture allows for normal chewing without slipping or discomfort, so patients may eat whatever they'd like.

Dr. Sheldon hosts educational seminars on the topic of dental implants each month in his office. Join us for our next seminar by calling (321) 259-9980 or Toll Free (877) 259-9980.
